The problem for cell phone users is the fact the phones are continually changing; more often than not, buyers just do not know which model to choose. Strangely, many buyers overlook certain important things before making their purchase; this article hopes to address the situation.

Every user will occasionally experience the race against battery life as they try to use up every ounce of power there is before recharging. Unfortunately, this can cause many problems with your cell phone battery and could shorten the life of your battery between charges to the point where you’re charging more than you’re talking!

Some cell phones have an automatic back light facility which only comes on when buttons are pressed which saves unnecessary power drain from your battery. If your phone does not have this function, turn the back light off when you are not using the phone or turn down the brightness if this cannot be done. The biggest drain on the cell phone battery is when it is trying to receive a signal and a full charge can fade completely overnight even though it is not being used just because it cannot find a signal so if this is the case, turn it off. When ever you use your cell phone; talking, playing games, listening to music, taking picture with the flash or surfing the Internet, it will drain the battery faster so limit these activities otherwise you may not be able to make that urgent call you need.

You will often find that wallpapers, ring tones and images that are downloaded automatically will have a charge even though this is not mentioned at the start so be aware. Many children have run up huge debts with this facility without knowing so parents should ensure they have control over this feature.

People that use a cell phone regularly, arrange for a monthly plan, this is a contract over 12 or 24 months but if the phone is not going to be used regularly, a pay-per use option is probably preferable. Only you will know how often you make calls and how long they are on average but the pay-per use agreement is probably not going to be the most cost effective if you are someone who uses the phone a great deal. Some features like tri-band or quad-band means they can be used in Europe and Asia but these may only be available with phones that are part of a long term agreement so look out for deals that will be of benefit to you.

It is always a good idea once you are happy that your plan supplies everything you need so check the small print in case there are any further costs not immediately apparent that will be payable once you have signed on the dotted line. It is now common for people with long term contracts to have an insurance warranty included which will replace their phone if it is damaged, lost or stolen. This is more common than people think and the last thing you want is to be stuck with the bill for replacement.

You also want to make sure that the parts and accessories are easily obtained from any regular cell phone store, even if you purchase the phone from an Internet based company.
